Rocketship (2024) dir. Jonathon Quam

Rocketship is an evocative Americana tale that intertwines themes of burden and purpose. The narrative delves into the intricacies of poverty, trauma, and history, as experienced through the life of Rocket, a reclusive figure living on the fringes of society in Wichita Falls, Texas. Rocket’s existence is marked by a profound struggle to keep his inner demons in check while simultaneously maintaining the city's most iconic landmark, a task he shoulders alone.

The film adopts a verité style to capture the raw, unfiltered reality of Rocket's daily life. We’re privileged to witness his vulnerability as he lays bare his experiences, providing an intimate look into the contradictions that define his character. Rocketship immerses the audience in the visceral reality of Rocket’s world, highlighting the stark contrast between his solitary existence and the communal significance of the landmark he preserves. The authenticity of Rocket’s struggles and triumphs resonate universally, painting a poignant picture of resilience and the enduring human spirit.
