On the Verge: Recent Works by Matt Wedel

October 19-February 15, 2020

The Wichita Falls Museum of Art at MSU Texas presents On the Verge: Recent Work by Matt Wedel, an exhibition of ceramic sculpture by artist Matt Wedel. This exhibition was organized by LSU Museum of Art in collaboration with LSU College of Art and Design and LSU School of Art with support from The Winifred and Kevin P. Reilly Jr. Fund. Wedel’s often remarkably large-scale ceramic works explore culture and nature pushing materials and forms to the verge of collapse. Visually and conceptually, Wedel’s sculpture collapses boundaries between painting, sculpture, and ceramics. His flower and landscape forms seem burdened by scale and color. The drooping forms suggest the pressure of culture encroaching on landscape to create a “poetic narration of collapse.”
