The University of Dallas Regional Juried Ceramic Competition assembles contemporary ceramic artworks of the region, both functional and sculptural. Originally exhibited at the University of Dallas’s Beatrice M. Haggerty Gallery,  this competition offered an opportunity for ceramic artists to exhibit their work in the highly charged metropolitan area of North Texas. Now the artist have the opportunity to reach even further by exhibiting at the Wichita Falls Museum of Art at Midwestern State University.

The University of Dallas Regional Ceramics Competition Exhibition will be on open and free to the public from  March 23, 2017 to May 12, 2017.

2017 Juror: Professor Virginia Marsh

Virginia received her undergraduate degree in Art from DePauw University and her M.F.A. from The Ohio State University. Virginia taught ceramics for twenty years at the University of Louisville and has also taught special courses for a list of many schools that include Purdue University, The Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts and the Banff Centre School of Art where she was an Artist-in-Residence in 1984.

Virginia has traveled throughout North America to exhibit and conduct workshops. She conducted field studies on pottery in Japan and England to further inform her understanding of the long and rich history of ceramics. Beginning when there were only a few publishers interested in pottery and its history, Virginia worked as Editorial Advisor to the Chilton Book Company, to help increase the range and number of books available to artists and patrons of the arts. Professor Virginia Marsh has published numerous articles on ceramics and photos of her work are featured in major texts on the subject.

In 2000, Virginia moved back to north Texas. She currently teaches at the Craft Guild of Dallas and is Artist-in-Residence at the University of Dallas.
