Frederick Mershimer is a highly recognized practitioner and teacher of mezzotint printmaking based in Brooklyn, New York. Mershimer, a foremost mezzotint printmaker, has been featured in numerous publications on the subject. He is one of a handful of printmakers who have mastered the mezzotint technique, a labor-intensive process that produces rich blacks and subtle grays, which he says is somewhat of a lost art. Mershimer’s work is in such prestigious collections as The Brooklyn Museum of Art; The Corcoran Gallery of Art, Washington, DC; and The Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, among others.
