Benito Huerta (1952), born in Corpus Christi, Texas, is an art educator and Realist artist whose works address politics, money, war, the environment, and Mexican culture. In addition, to his own artwork, Huerta has completed several public art commissions. Huerta received his BFA from the University of Houston and his MFA from New Mexico State University. He has also studied and worked with print master Peter Webb intermittently from 1994 to 2001. Huerta served as co-founder, executive director, and emeritus board director of the Texas art journal Art Lies. Since 1997, Huerta has served as an art professor and director/curator of the gallery at the University of Texas, Arlington. He has received commendations including the Legend of the Year Award presented by the Dallas Center for Contemporary Art (2002). Huerta’s work is held in collections such as the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; the Albuquerque Museum of Art; and the Art Museum of South Texas, Corpus Christi.
