“Art and Literature Bear Witness to Nature” by Judith Garrett Segura

Judith Garrett Segura is a writer and painter. She retired as president and trustee of The Belo Foundation at the end of 2004, after a 24-year career at A. H. Belo Corporation in Dallas. While at Belo, she also served acompany historian, and she was curator of the company’s 300-piece collection of art by Texas artists. She has written a scholarly history of Belo Corporation and has organized the business papers and written about T. Boone Pickens and Morton H. Meyerson.
Her poetry was published in New Texas 93 by the Center for Texas Studies; one of her poems was selected for the Dallas Area Rapid Transit “Poetry in Motion” project in 2001; and she recorded a CD of her poetry titled Ross & Pearl: Poems of Love & Lossin 2001. In recent years, she has contributed to Langdon Review of the Arts in Texas with essays on art and journalism published in 2007, 2009, 2018 and 2019.
As a visual artist, Segura has carried out three commissions for public art, one at White Rock Lake in 1996 and another in downtown Dallas in 2002. In 2007 she completed a commission for the University of North Texas at Dallas, incorporating three of her designs into the architecture of the first building on the new permanent campus.
Judith Garrett Segura has a Bachelor of Arts in English and Fine Arts from Texas A&I, now Texas A&M University at Kingsville; a Master of Arts in English and Art History from the University of North Texas; and a Master of Fine Arts in Painting and Photography, also from the University of North Texas School of Visual Arts.
